A couple weekends ago we packed a bag and headed to Los Angeles. We had hopes of seeing at least one famous person, eating some great food, and doing a little “shopping” on Rodeo Drive. We managed to do 2/3 :). We actually picked a pretty gross weekend to go…it was rainy and dreary pretty much all day Saturday. Luckily, any time we actually needed to walk outside, the rain would stop.

When we got to town, we headed straight to Hollywood. It was Oscars weekend, so we actually got to see THE red carpet that the stars were going to be walking on. It was so neat!

Hollywood is actually really, really small. Other than the Chinese Theater and the “Walk of Fame”, there isn’t much to it. We had fun walking around and taking pictures with our favorite “stars”. It was fun to compare your hands and feet to all of the famous ones in front of the theater. We were pretty surprised they didn’t have a spot for Lucille Ball. I was really wanting to get a picture “with” her!

We also got to eat at some pretty famous places while we were in town. We chose not to hit any of the trendy $$$ places, and instead went for the cheap comfort food eats, like Pink’s hotdogs. Mmmmmm….

Justin Pre-Chili Dogs

Justin after TWO chili dogs. Bad idea. Really bad idea.

Or Sprinkles cupcakes…absolutely amazing.

We also tried Roscoe’s House of Chicken and Waffles, but it didn’t live up to the reputation. Justin was still feeling a little sick from Pink’s (two chili dogs will do that to you!), and the food just wasn’t that great. On Sunday we hit up the ethnic farmer’s market in downtown L.A. We had heard that a pupusa was the thing to try. It sounds disgusting, but it’s actually pretty good. It’s basically like a pita stuffed with meat and cheese and topped with slaw. Nothing really special, but a filling lunch.

Pupusa

In between trying different restaurants, we managed to fit in a visit to UCLA. The school reminded both of us of Tech’s campus. While we were driving around, we decided to look up and see if either one of our sororities/fraternities were on the UCLA campus. We found out both of them were! We found a place to park right by Gamma Phi’s house, but had to do a drive-by of Theta Xi. Random fun :).

We also took a trip to Rodeo Drive. Talk about $$$! We didn’t even go in half of the stores because they were uber tiny and there was no way we could afford anything. We just enjoyed walking around and seeing the sights. Have a laugh at the picture of the guy below…I snuck the picture when we pulled up next to him in the car. I know, I know. I’m sneaky :).

On Sunday we went to Santa Monica. It was an absolutely beautiful day. The kind of day with a really blue sky and gorgeous puffy clouds for miles. The Santa Monica Pier was really fun. There were tons of games to play, not to mention all the rides. When we saw the ferris wheel, I knew we had to ride it. It was so much fun and had such a gorgeous view of the beach! It was a bit windy though…like super windy. That’s why our pictures look so goofy. Long hair + wind = tangled disaster :).

Appropriate picture seeing as how we drove all of it!

Crazy hair. Doesn't the background look fake?? It's not...pinky promise!

Well, that’s the recap of our trip. L.A. is one crazy place. Only in L.A. would you see this walking down the street…

Notice anything?

We had a great time and would love to go back during the week when you can tour the studios and take in a T.V. show taping (they don’t do that on the weekends). Definitely a place to put on your must-see-at-least-once list!

P.S. Justin’s family gets in this morning!!
